In My Cool...What You Know About That, Huh?

Exposing your music and inner thoughts and feelings to the world is one thing. Submitting it to a review panel can put you on edge if you are a little thin-skinned.  So, when opening e-mails of reviews from this panel for "In My Cool"  we thought people might not get it, the metaphors might be too much, so we prepared ourselves for the negative feedback.  Well the response was the opposite further telling us we are on to something here,,,,Long live R&B. Baby Babaaaaayyyyyyy

So check out "In My Cool" written and produced by Kenneth Christian: https://www.reverbnation.com/jaynablackwell/song/24836251-in-my-cool

Here are just a few of the reviews:
“I like this song very much. It 's my type of genre. The artist voice sounds amazing. Where can I get her album? Is she famous yet? When can I meet her? Is this song on you tube? It 's like super great, they sound like angels”

“Love the intro, makes me feel calm and happy. this song would be great for someone looking for a peaceful day. the rhythm of this song is amazing, people enjoy slow song, also the beat is great and her voice is on tone. personally i think this song was very well done and the people who did it put a lot of effort in the making of this song.”

“nice and funky. something they'd play in a poetry lounge in the background. I'm snap clapping as we speak. good music, good lyrics, the singer has a pretty powerful voice. Not only that but she is riding the beat like a professional bull rider. definite chill music.”

“The beat in the beginning is funky, but I like it. The song is seems to be painting a picture of now and then. The vocal are lovely and harmonizes well. The song is an easy listening song. It should bring to your cool. It does sounds like an old school R&B.”

Music.... The Key to My Life

You have probably guessed by now...Music is a big part of my life. Along with my deep rooted passion for music, there is also my family and friends whose love and support I value more than life itself.  These six pictures represent just a small number of people I've been blessed to meet along the paths of my musical journey. We may have performed together, or recorded together, or even developed life-long friendships together...nevertheless, the common factor is the music that brought us together.

One of my all time favorite albums by Stevie Wonder is "Songs in the Key of Life" that 2 album creation changed my life! I was just a youngen' when it came out, but the music within became the soundtrack to much of my life's experiences.  I would sit for hours and listen/sing and dream of how my life would be centered around music. Even though I was way too shy as a little girl and even ashamed of thinking of being a singer ( I just didn't think I had the right look or sound). Just yesterday I celebrated a milestone Birthday of one of my most cherished childhood friends. We reminisced and shared memories... one of the biggest discussions at the party was how extremely shy I was and how surprising it is that I have now become a professional vocalist.  Even though the gift and desire was within me all along, it took other people (my family and friends) to see it in me first and to give it validation before it manifested in my life..., And, now, look at how things turned out.... Like I always say...Never stop dreaming, your gift will make room for you"

Thank you for your continued love and support...we ain't through yet, there's more to be written to this story...

Did You See What they Said?...Some Reviews Are In

Being ranked at the top on some sites is all about positioning and clicks; statistics.... But the written word, I think carries the weight. Those people actually took the time to comment on your work.... I opened my email to some reviews of "That's My Song Ft. Kenyaun" and baby let me tell you,  Iam over the top excited about them.....so, because I can't hold water, I am inclined to share just a few of the many....

What they are saying about us:
Reverbnation Reviews (just a few) of "That's My Song Ft. Kenyaun".....

“All of the woman singing together sound blended to me. They are in harmony with each other. This is a catchy tune. And the
man in the background that speaks here and there sounds good. I feel like this is an upbeat song. The melody is attractive. I
would leave the song as is.”

“This song is radio's next hit! The beat is popping and it makes me want to dance! This song will be danced to on dance floors
country wide! The singer along with the back up singers sound great together and the lyrics will be screamed by teen age
girls.”

“another 90s feeling song, I'm an 80s baby, so it touches my soul. rocking out as we speak. she carries the beat nicely, instead
of the beat carrying her, which is nice. pleasant voice. I'd definitely play this. its a very well balanced song. and this will receive
one of my highest ratings to date. Side note, the rap verse drops perfectly... this gets an 8”

“This mix sounds like it has been thoroughly thought through, it sounds balanced and gives a good feel. I like how the vocals
spring into action in the mid range in the choruses, it gives it a good depth. This sounds like quite generic R&B that would be
listened to at clubs.”

Thank you for your continued love and support...

That's My Song...Fah Real!!

Have you ever heard someone say..."That's My Song" when talking about a hot track or one of their favorite songs?  Or that feeling you get as a singer/songwriter when you hear people singing the lyrics of "Your song"? ...Baby...that is a feeling like none other...I remember One time I walked into a club in Stockton (I'll never forget this night) and I was greeted by of group of people at a table... they said..."There she is that's Jayna Blackwell and then they began singing "That's My Song"  It blew me away.  The best thing about that moment was not only did they know all of the words but they were from a Radio station.... Spear-headed by Sacramento's very Own Lady Jazz 'The Queen of KLJN Radio. They were the first station to play it and hugely responsible for it's popularity in Northern California. Now that we have inked a single deal for this track and as we are literally making plans for a National Campaign I am reminded of how this whole thing came about...

We wanted to give people something that would make you say those words when you hear it... like, Ooooh DJ that's my song...LOL.... Funny thing during the writing process...Ken'yaun called me and said "...I have the name of the song"... "That's My Song"   I was like, I know, I love the song too, but what's the name of it...We went back and forth for a minute until I figured out he was actually telling me the name of the song and...it was if a light bulb went off in my head....Yes, that's it.

This track was written and produced by Kenneth Christian AKA Ken'Yaun of Currency Kingz Entertainment. Ken'Yaun as a writer/producer can be VERY determined when it comes to what he wants to hear and even the first attempt at this track was scratched. Check out the video above (the mixing session of the song) we finally got smiles, so we knew we were on the right track. We even got Luigi (the engineer and proprietor) of Legacy Studio in El Cerrito to bob his head and give it his sign of approval...LOL

The single also features Ken'Yaun and is from my first EP :Soulful R&B Experience".  We hope you enjoy it...Peace and Blessings People!!

Every Mistress Has her day!!

Yes every mistress has her day!  What does being named the "Mistress of Soul" mean to me?  Hah why did I think you'd want to know? To me, there are many definitions of a woman; Queen, Princess, Mistress, Wife, Mother, Daughter, etc.... The term mistress to some may have a negative connatation but none of that applies here.  In the context of Soul music, I believe it takes on a whole new meaning.  I am by far the "Queen of  Soul"  or even the "Princess of  Soul" although I'm definitely bringing you some soulful music...my music has its day and now is the time!!! Seriously, though, what you've heard so far is only the beginning of my journey into the depths of Soulful R&B and the voice you hear today is a direct result of my musical journey.  I started singing in church and then with a Motown Revue and even fronted a Blues/Rock/Funk band and so much more.  The flavors/textures and sounds of each of those styles is blended in my being if you will.... I'm not Aretha or Chaka or Anita or Pattie...Those legends are who they are and I love them for the beautiful music they have shared with all of us ... There was a time when I wanted to be them and sound like them,,,but,,,It took some time to realize.., I am Jayna and I have my own voice and I too bring Confidence, Independence, Creativity, Edginess, and Elegance to the table .... I'm in my own lane.... "The Mistress of  Soul"
